Pregnant Dog Refuses Dog Food
My dog refuses to eat the new dog food we got for her. When we put other food with it, such as gravy or sausage, she will eat most of it. She doesn't have any problems eating food, she just seems uninterested in it.
Our other male dog eats all of his food. I was wondering if she wasn't eating because she is about one month through her pregnancy.

Hi Sam,
I agree with you. Your dog's current lack of appetite is probably pregnancy related. Many bitches tend to go off their food for a while until they adjust to the flux in their hormone levels. The good news is that you should just about be reaching the point where your dog will begin to feel better and begin to eat normally again. She may even experience a surge in her appetite to make up for the lost time.
Until she turns the corner, go ahead and feed her the foods she like to eat. To keep things more nutritious, I recommend you vary her meals between things like boiled chicken and brown rice, and ground beef and cooked carrots. Also try to give her dog vitamins if you can get her to take them. This should ensure she's getting all the vitamins and minerals she needs.
